About the Role
The Volunteer Program Coordinator plays a vital role in managing and enhancing our volunteer programs. This position is responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers to ensure they are effectively engaged in our mission. The main focus of this position is the AlterCat TNR volunteer program. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for community service. The ideal candidate MUST be comfortable working with feral cats and knowledgeable on TNR. This role requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple tasks while fostering a positive environment for volunteers.
Job Responsibilities
Respond to calls for service regarding community cat issues.
Work with TNR volunteers in trapping and transporting of community cats for the purpose of spay/neuter and release.
Coordinate with residents, caretakers, and volunteers.
Communicate dates of surgery and time for trapping events, pick up, and drop offs.
Be a community cat/TNR information resource to all internal and external inquiries.
Maintain trap inventories and other materials.
Identify traps requiring repair or replacement.
Demonstrates safe and effective use of traps.
Assist in strategic plan development regarding the TNR program.
Recruit community cat volunteers and host volunteer orientation sessions.
Train, coach, and supervise TNR volunteers.
Assist citizens with interpretation and understanding of animal ordinances, program procedures, and responsible animal ownership.
Coordinate community cat surgeries with the TNR program at AlterClinic.
Input all cat intake/outcome and TNR surgeries into ClinicHQ.
Track, plot, and maintain a map of the location of feral and community cats that have gone through AlterCat.
Supervise, coordinate, and delegate trapping assignments to residents, caretakers, and volunteers.
Work directly with the Executive Director and TNR veterinarian in developing new TNR procedures.
Work cohesively with other local community cat partners.
Organize and coordinate large-scale TNR spay/neuter events.
Establish goals, plans, and timelines.
Act as a liaison between the city of Canton and AlterClinic Animal Care for establishing trapping locations and events for the city.
Work closely with the AlterClinic Animal Care medical staff to understand and manage any unique needs of the TNR cats in our brief care.
Build good community relations: act as an educational resource, available for on-site education and training at neighborhood organizations, HOA’s, senior centers, schools, etc.
Maintains a positive and upbeat role. Promotes and exemplifies AlterClinic’s values and upholds the clinic’s mission.
Follow up on complaints, questions, and concerns. Responds to internal/external customer needs in a friendly, timely, and efficient manner.
Drive company vehicle in performance of company duties.
Clean and maintain the company vehicle after a TNR or transport event.
Oversee and ascertain that all TNR admission records are entered correctly.
Job Requirements
Proven experience in volunteer management or related fields such as social work or community engagement.
Proven experience with TNR cats and/or programs.
Strong recruiting skills with an understanding of effective campus recruitment strategies.
Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
Experience in training development and supervising teams is highly desirable.
Proficient in social media management to effectively promote volunteer initiatives.
